Because a child’s imagination is Nature’s classroom

My Outside Voice

You will quickly pick up a theme on my blog.  My vocation and my avocation both center on human potential; for me the greatest impact I can make is with children from birth though age 7!

As parents and educators (and yes, as sellers of toys), we need to provide kids a variety of play experiences that empower them, and give them opportunities for trial and error, adventure and cooperation.

Children need unstructured playtime and I see less respect for the value of play than ever before.

We need to return play to kids

As I mention on my toy company’s site, Little Little Little Toy Company, I have a simple philosophy about what we sell. It boils down to this core belief about play:

Play is essential to the well being of all of us-big and little.  Through play, we discover ourselves and learn about how the world works!

Our core beliefs about toys include viewing:

  1. toys as secondary to the child; the magic is in the child, not in the toy
  2. toys as open-ended playthings, the simpler the better!
  3. toys as tools, not mere acquisitions for a collection
  4. toys as investments over time, not as commodities to be quickly consumed and just as quickly discarded
  5. toys as a window for revealing a child’s creativity and uniqueness

I intend for this blog to be a forum for information from child advocates and child development specialists (as well as a soapbox for my own favorite rants)! Let’s return play to kids. Let’s honor unstructured playtime in the lives of the kids we love.  You and I can make a difference, one child at a time.

We believe our toys and our values can impact little people in big ways.  We think you’ll agree and hope to welcome you to a play experience with the Little Little Little Toy Company.
